Creating & Editing Your Product List

Standard vs. MRD layouts function differently. Take note of your format and follow the respective instructions.
Standard Layout
Each item has 3 optional columns (Received, Prep, Production) that can each
store their own different expiration period. These 3 columns directly correspond to the 3 tabs (REC, PREP, PROD)
in the PrepWizard app. Multiple columns are useful for items that have dynamic expiration periods throughout
the product lifecycle. For example, Pepperoni may last for 14 days in an unopened bag, 48 hours once opened,
and only 24 hours once put into use/production. In this scenario, you can input the 3 different expiration periods
under each respective column, and simply switch between tabs in the app to print the corresponding label. It is common for PrepWizard users to only utilize 1 column. If your products only have 1 expiration period per item, then we recommend just using the PREP column.
Adding Products
- Click Add Product in the top left corner.
- Enter product Name. There is a 24 character limit for most label formats.
- Enter a time period in all 3 columns. All columns require you to at least enter "0"
- You can calculate dates in units of days (d), hours (h), or minutes (m).
- Enter times with a numeric value and the unit of time, separated by a space. Example:
- 7 days = 7 d
- 12 hours = 12 h
- 90 minutes = 90 m
- Note: Only whole numbers are accepted. For 1.5 days, enter 36 hours. For 2.5 hours, enter 150 minutes, etc.
- Once all required fields are complete, the item will auto save and appear alphabetically in the list.
- Inventory ID is an optional field that let's you sort products within the app in ascending order vs. alphabetical.
- Assign one or multiple Tags to the item used to filter products in the app. See Creating Tags for more help.
- Finish & repeat as necessary. See the Advanced Logic section for additional features.
Product Options
Click the
icon in the Actions column

Each column gets its own independent set of configuration options, so take note at which column you are applying settings to
Received Date
When this box is checked, the use-by date will take into account the date information stored in the column chosen in the dropdown.
A common example of this is where a product's use-by date for prep can be affected by when the product was received.
The formula works by choosing the earliest date calculated between:
- Shelf life of the current column added to the current time (or the custom time if specified)
- Shelf life of the referenced column added to the received date (use enters this value in the app)
- If the referenced column specified EOD for the date calculation, then this date is converted to EOD
Manual Expiration
When this box is checked, a red "Package Exp Date" option appears under the product name in the app. This indicates to the user that a use-by date cannot be calculated and it must be manually entered.
If the user does not enter a value in the app, then "See Package" is printed on the label instead of a use-by date.
Allow Expiration Override
When this box is checked, a "Package Exp Date" option appears under the product name in the app. This indicates to the user that an optional expiration date can be input so that the final calculated use-by date cannot be greater than the date specified.
EOD
When this box is checked, the product use-by date will be converted to End Of Day.
Is Enabled
When this box is checked, the product will not appear within the column.
Make, Ready, Discard (MRD) Layout
Each item has 2 columns, allowing up to 2 unique date calculations to appear on the same label. If you see "Ready" and "Discard" columns, then you are on the MRD format. This format is most useful when your restaurant needs to track the thaw and discard period for items on the same label.
